School Refurbishment

Denefield School

Founded in 1976 and originally called Long Lane Comprehensive Denefield is a secondary school and Technology College situated in Tilehurst, Reading. The school converted to become an academy in January 2012 and educates over 1000 children and young people aged 11 - 18, from both Reading and West Berkshire Local Authorities.

Denefield School has been undergoing capital investment and part of this has been used to unify curriculum support / inclusion areas, historically these have been scattered throughout the school, the aim was to create a central area to bring them together which would result in freeing up space to create further classrooms and office areas.

New Commercial Services have undertaken works previously for the school so we were approached to tender for the schools refurbishment project. We understand that working within schools and educational organisations requires a special duty of care and all of our on-site team are DBS checked.

The challenge was to complete the main works within the school summer holiday period of 6-8 weeks, with the aim to minimise disruption. Following the initial meetings to discuss the client’s requirements and the subsequent presentation of the designs tailored to the required budget, NCS carefully planned a schedule of works to meet the required timescales, allowing them to keep the remaining residual works behind closed doors and as such successfully allowing the school day to continue uninterrupted.

After the initial preliminary demolition and alterations the works to complete the schools refurbishment included new partitioning, suspended ceilings, electrical fittings, joinery and redecoration.

The result of merging the units to one area successfully freed up areas which have now been converted to a Finance Room, Medical Centre and further classrooms.

The testimonial to the successful completion of the project is simply that we have been commissioned for yet further works by Denefield School.
